Whitening Services

whiteningTeeth can become discolored by a number of things – food, aging, or injuries.

The surface of the teeth can be stained by things we eat and drink like tea, coffee, berries or by tobacco use.  Calculus or better known as tartar can also lead to staining.  When a dental cleaning is not enough to remove all of the staining, you may decide to have your teeth whitened.

There are two ways of whitening the teeth, chairside bleaching and in-home bleaching.

Chairside bleaching is done at the dental office. The procedure takes about one hour to complete and at Lakeridge Dental we use a product called “Boost” whitening. It is not uncommon for the teeth to become sensitive after a bleaching treatment.

In-home bleaching is done in the comfort of your own home. The dentist will take an impression of your teeth to make a custom-fit bleaching tray. At home, the tray will be used with a gel bleaching solution and worn for a specified time depending on the strength of the solution recommended by the dentist.

A professional grade whitening strip, which is placed on the teeth is also an option for in-home use. An over-the-counter whitening kit will not give you the same results and all bleaching treatments should be done under the supervision of a dentist following a proper exam and diagnosis.

Brushing, flossing and regular cleanings will help to keep your teeth and you looking your best.

If you are interested in whitening your teeth, make an appointment to visit with your dentist and discuss which option is best for you.
